Deputies searching for man who robbed Hilton Head hotel

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- Beaufort County deputies are looking for a man they say robbed early Thursday morning the Metropolitan Hotel on Hilton Head Island.

According to deputies, a black man walked into the employee's office, told the clerk he had a gun, and demanded all the money in the office.

Deputies say the man did not show a weapon, but the clerk did see a bulge in the right pocket of the suspect that she thought might be a gun. The man got away with some cash and a laptop valued at $600.

The suspect is described as a black male 32-40 years of age, approximately 5'10" and 150 pounds. The suspect was wearing black sagging sweat pants with cargo pockets, a black top and black skull cap.

The sheriff's office established a perimeter along Pope Avenue, Cordillo Parkway and South Forest Beach Drive, officials said. K-9 units responded and conducted a criminal track but were unsuccessful.

The robbery is under investigation by the Southern Investigations Section of the Beaufort County Sheriff's Office.
