CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The possibility of a plus-sized Barbie doll has raised a critical examination of one company's motivation to make girls more accepting of their bodies.

A Plus Size Modeling Group on Facebook on Dec. 18 recently shared an image of a normal Barbie and a "Fat Barbie" and asked people to weigh in on the matter.

The Facebook post has garnered 40,000 likes and more than 2,000 shares since its original posting. Many people who commented were critical of the plasticized view of larger women.

One person said the dolls promoted poor health and bad eating habits. Another person said the triple chin was over the top because most larger people only have two chins, regardless of their weight.

"Get rid of the chins! Not all fat folk have multiple chins," said another person.

Another commenter suggested that the manufacturers should produce realistically proportioned Barbie that promotes healthy diet and exercise.

Mattel, the maker of the Barbie doll line, has not said such a doll was being considered for production.
