CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — Car after car, bag after bag, large items and small items are making their way from trunks, to bins, then eventually the Goodwill store floor.

"New Year's Eve has always traditionally been a very big donation day for us at Goodwill and I think it's because it's the last day to get your tax deductible receipt for the 2013 year," said Erin Aylor, the marketing manager for Palmetto Goodwill.

People are looking for that receipt to get money back on their taxes says Aylor. Stores will have people ready to handle the last minute drop-offs.

"There was quite a bit, we had a couple of boxes, seven or eight bags, and my wife's car was equally just as full," said Richard Cashon.

Frequent customers like Bonnie Hudson say they make it a family affair to donate every few months.

"You donate, you give the things that you no longer can use, so someone else can actually go in the stores and buy," said Hudson.

Aylor says ultimately people have a choice when it comes to getting rid of items no longer needed, and people choose Goodwill because of their mission.

"People want to give back to the community, and that's what we do here at Goodwill," said Aylor.

As the piles of items continue to grow, don't expect to see all of them on the store floor at once. Goodwill plans to spread the newly donated items throughout the year.
