Clemson hopes to make positive memories this time around

Posted: Updated:

MIAMI (WCIV) -- When Clemson and the Orange Bowl are mentioned in the same breath, two things come to mind. First, the National Championship in 1981 and second, a 70-33 loss to West Virginia two years ago.

This year's team was not alive for the 1981 game. But as for the game two years ago, the Tigers still hear jokes that West Virginia scored again.

"What happened here lat time was a disappointment- a learning experience for us," said Tajh Boyd, the senior quarterback. "Look[ing] back, the roster was so young and inexperienced. [They] didn't know how to handle it."

This year, Clemson is hoping to learn from that losing experience.

"Anything can happen at any time," said Head Coach Dabo Swinney. "You hope they'll stay focused. [We] do a great job as a staff keeping them dialed in and letting them have some fun along the way as well."
