NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Two Charleston County deputies were injured in separate crashes Wednesday night.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the Charleston County Sheriff's Office said Deputy Patrick Ward was responding to an armed robbery at a Burger King on Savannah Highway on Johns Island when the officer lost control and crashed.

Ward was responding from Highway 165 in Ravenel. Officials say the cruiser flipped several times before finally coming to a stop.

Ward was taken to a nearby hospital with what were described as moderate to severe injuries.

Officials said he was released from MUSC at about 6 p.m. on Thursday. Ward will continue his recovery at home with his family, officials said.

The spokesperson says a deputy sheriff supervisor wrecked while responding to the first crash site. Officials say the supervisor was coming from Savannah Highway and Sam Rittenburg Boulevard in Charleston. The officer lost control of the vehicle and hit a utility pole.

The deputy sheriff supervisor was not hurt.

Both accidents are being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol. Officials have not released the names of the second deputy.
