MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- A Mount Pleasant man was arrested early Thursday morning after police say he hit another car and drove away and then got into a fight with police officers at his home.

According to a police report, Gregory David Francis, of Park West Boulevard, was charged with leaving the scene of an accident with property damage and driving under the influence.

The report states that officers first responded to the Montclair Apartments where a man said Francis hit his car and drove away. Police found Francis at his Park West home, reportedly sitting in his Jeep with the keys in the ignition and trying to text.

The first officer tapped on the window and, after failing to find the controls to lower the window, Francis opened the door and stepped out of the Jeep, the report states. That's when Francis allegedly became argumentative, put his hand in the officer's face and screamed expletives, according to the report.

The responding officer said he could smell alcohol on Francis when he first opened the door.

After feeling threatened, the officer took Francis to the group and handcuffed him. While the officer was trying to put Francis in a patrol car, Francis reportedly kicked the officer and began banging his head on the Plexiglas divider in the cruiser, the report states.

At one point, Francis allegedly said he had been drinking with friends at Kickin' Chicken and told the officer he was three hours too late to stop him.

Francis was taken to East Cooper Medical Center for examination and then to the Charleston County Detention Center.

Damage to the other person's car was valued at $1,000.
