Military couple welcomes Anchorage's first baby

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) - The first baby born in Anchorage in 2014 appears to be girl born to a military couple.

The Anchorage Daily News reports Layla Grace Gibson was born at 2:24 a.m., Jan. 1, at the Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson Hospital. Her parents are Courtney and Jordan Lee Gibson.

He's an Army specialist with the 725th Bravo Company Airborne.

Layla Grace weighed 8 pounds, 12 ounces, and was 21 inches long.

The couple moved from South Carolina to Alaska three years ago, and they live in Palmer.
