Successful year for Gullah Geechee people

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Gullah Geechee people said 2013 was a successful year for them.

It started with an appearance in the  the 2013 Presidential Inauguration Parade in Washington, D.C., which brought national exposure to the group's effort.

The Gullah Geechee Corridor is also more visible here in the Lowcountry. Designated road signs can be seen in all four states of the corridor along Highway 17.

"We want 2014 to be a year of thanks to the communities that have stuck with us, who have believed in us, who have cherished us with their thoughts and beliefs and we can best protect, preserve and sustain Gullah Geechee Corridor," said Michael Allen with the corridor's community partnership.

One setback for the group was the resignation of Executive Director Ronald Daise.
