CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - Four days of events next month will mark the 150th anniversary of the mission of the Confederate submarine H.L. Hunley, the first sub in history to sink an enemy warship.

The hand-cranked sub and its crew of eight sank the Union blockade ship Housatonic off Charleston in February 1864. The Hunley also sank. The Hunley wreck was located in 1995, raised in 2000 and brought to a lab in North Charleston where it is being conserved.

Anniversary events begin on Valentine's Day and continue through Feb. 17, the 150th anniversary of the Hunley sinking.

There will be an honor guard and living history scenes at the Hunley lab as part of the commemoration as well as a presentation by genealogist Linda Abrams who researched the backgrounds of the sub's crew.
