Reports: JetBlue suspending operations Monday afternoon

Posted: Updated:

BOSTON (WCIV) -- Officials for jetBlue announced Monday that operations would be slowed at 1 p.m. and completely suspended at 5 p.m. at several of the nation's busiest airports.

At 1 p.m., the airline slowed operations at JFK, LaGuardia, Newark, and Boston's Logan Airport with plans to completely suspend operations at 5 p.m.

Officials said in a statement that they hope to ramp back up production at 10 a.m. Tuesday with the intent to be fully operational by 3 p.m.

"These industry wide cancellations, on top of the previous days' cancellations, have now left millions of air travelers displaced, struggling to find any available seat to get to their destinations. With planes already full with previously booked holiday travelers, remaining seats are quickly filled, (for some of the other guys, even overbooked), and some customers aren't seeing available seats for nearly a week," the statement reads.

The decision by jetBlue is having an effect in Charleston.

Already there are two flights -- one to JFK and another to Boston -- that have been canceled. There is a flight that was supposed to leave at 10:30 a.m. Monday that is delayed.

Airport officials across the country are advising travelers to check on their flights before heading to the airport due to the number of delayed and canceled flights.
