MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- Jennifer Cobb planned the birth of her third baby down to the very hour. But on the day planned for the delivery, she was reminded that she can't mess with Mother Nature.

"You can't have it all planned out all the time. It doesn't always work out that way," Jennifer Cobb said.

"Originally we were supposed to be here at 6 a.m. That was the plan for her induction. But about three o'clock she was like, 'I think we need to go to the hospital now,'" her husband Jeff Cobb said.

It was an early labor on a day when her other sons' schools were operating on a two-hour delay. Surely nothing else could go wrong.

"It was probably 9 o'clock in the morning, we heard a big boom," Jennifer Cobb said.

"I mean it was a loud bang. Power went out, everything shut off," Jeff Cobb said.

While Jennifer was in labor, the power went out at East Cooper Medical Center. A couple minutes later, generators powered the hospital back up, except for the heat.

"I was definitely nervous. I didn't want to make it known to her, didn't want to scare her. Luckily after a couple hours it did come back on and then everything went smoothly," her husband said.

Baby Ashton Bordeaux Cobb was born just after 11 a.m. Now, his parents have a story they can share with him as he gets older.

"I'll tell him that we left New Jersey to move to South Carolina for warmer weather and ironically, he was brought in to this world on the coldest day here! Hopefully he'll get a kick out of this. Ironically our children, even though they've been born and raised in South Carolina, they love the cold weather. So it just seems appropriate for our family," Jennifer Cobb said.

The Cobbs had a feeling Ashton too, will always love the cold.
