Officials investigate 2 cold-related deaths in SC

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Officials in the Upstate are investigating whether two deaths are the result of cold weather.

Cherokee County Coroner Dennis Fowler says an autopsy is being conducted to determine if 58-year-old Hank Duane Reynolds of Chesnee had a medical condition that killed him before the cold. Reynolds's body was found in a field in Gaffney Tuesday morning.

Spartanburg County Coroner Rusty Clevenger said 56-year-old Norma Jean Sanders was found dead Tuesday after spending the night outside. Clevenger says he is still trying to figure out if factors other than cold contributed to Sanders' death.

It was not as cold in South Carolina on Wednesday. Temperatures ranged from 13 degrees in Rock Hill to 30 degrees in Hilton Head Island.

High temperatures Wednesday should range from around 40 to mid-40s.
