SCE&G urges power conservation on cold mornings

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina Electric & Gas is urging its customers to conserve power during these cold mornings.

The utility said it expects high demand between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m. Wednesday as temperatures drop into the teens and low 20s across South Carolina. Officials are asking people to unplug non-essential appliances and take other power conservation measures during that time.

On Tuesday, SCE&G had to put in place 15-minute rolling blackouts for some customers because of so much power demand and weather-related problems with generating equipment.

The utility says it also dealt with thousands of other power outages before restoring electricity to almost everyone by the end of the day.

Duke Energy is making a similar request to its customers.
