GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Furman University says it has raised more than $400 million in a decade-long fundraising campaign.

The school said the "Because Furman Matters" campaign raised $406 million in an effort that started in 2004. The school publicly announced the campaign in 2007, after it had raised $225 million.

Interim President Carl Kohrt says the money will help guarantee the Greenville liberal arts school's ongoing success.

Most of the money will go to for academic scholarships, programs and professorships.

The school says more than 27.000 people contributed to the campaign.
