CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) -- Charleston is getting a new fire department headquarters.

Mayor Joe Riley, city council members and representatives from the fire department on Thursday dedicated the city's new Fire Station No. 9.

The new two-story station on the Charleston peninsula has five bays that will house fire trucks as well as a hazardous materials response unit. It also has administrative offices for the city's fire chief and staff.

The new station is designed to meet or exceed current hurricane and earthquake codes.
