Medal of Honor players to visit Yorktown before big bowl game

Posted: Updated:

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- Ninety-two college all-star senior football players from across the country will be on board the USS Yorktown Friday.

According to Patriots Point officials they will be touring the ship and the Medal of Honor Museum.

The players, who are being scouted to play in the NFL next year, are in town for the Medal of Honor Bowl, which takes place Saturday.

The jam-packed tours are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. and will be led by Patriots Point volunteers, most who are veterans.

"Many of these players are about to embark on NFL careers that will make them recognizable sports heroes," Medal of Honor Bowl Marketing Director Shelly Gardner said.  "Their visit to Patriots Point Medal of Honor Museum is a reminder of what they are playing for this weekend - The Medal of Honor Bowl - and to add perspective of another type of heroism, as we honor and celebrate America's freedoms and the many sacrifices our military heroes have rendered for us," she added.
