Inmate mistakenly released from detention center turns himself in

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) -- A man arrested Wednesday on drug charges was mistakenly released from the Charleston County Detention Center on Thursday but turned himself in Friday night.

According to deputies, George Henry Knight was taken to the detention center after being charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana, distribution of marijuana, and unlawful carrying of a firearm.

At a bond hearing Thursday, Knight was granted a personal recognizance bond and issued release. A $30,000 surety bond was also placed on Knight.

However, deputies say paperwork with the updated bond amount was not forwarded "in a timely manner" and led to Knight being released.

Officials said he turned himself into the Charleston County Sheriff's Office at about 9:30 p.m. the day after he was released.

Officials said he lodged back into the detention center without incident.
