CCSO investigating pit bull's death

Posted: Updated:

JOHNS ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) -- A pit bull died at a home on Johns Island where Charleston County Sheriff's Office deputies were investigating the mistaken release of a inmate.

Officials said the deputies were trying to locate George Henry King, who was mistakenly released from the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center on Thursday, when they came across several loose and aggressive pit bulls.

The deputies called the sheriff's office's animal control unit to the home on Pondview Road and the animal control deputies tried to secure the pit bulls with a catch pole, officials said.

Officials said one of the pit bulls died in the process.

Knight was not located at the home.

Officials are conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the pit bull's death.
