BONNEAU, S. C. (WCIV) -- Seven months ago, 79-year-old Artie Bradley was found dead on a dirt road two miles away from his home in Berkeley County.

Officials said it was a case that nearly went cold but just recently, it received what could be the break it needed to help bring interest back in solving the case - a $3,000 Crime Stoppers reward increase.

"You've heard the old saying ‘money talks,'' said Berkeley County Sheriff's Spokesperson Dan Moon.  "Money has a way of making people do things that they wouldn't ordinarily do, and if it takes money to solve a crime, then it's well worth it."

Family and close friends helped raise the extra reward money, bringing the total to $4,000.

So far, no arrests have been made in the case, but the family's private investigator said he has his suspicions of who may be responsible.

"What we have gathered is that it was someone who knew him. I think this was a crime of someone in his inner circle of friends," said James Scarborough, the family's private investigator.

Scarborough said the proof is the way Bradley died.

"In this crime there was no forcible entry. He disappeared literally out of thin air before he was found. That just tells us it was somebody he knew because he would've protected himself. There should have been a struggle or something," he said.

Bradley's body was found on Bonneau Road in the Francis Marion Forest in June.

Officials said a man and his wife were traveling down the road one afternoon when they found a body on the side of the roadway.

Officials hope the increased reward money will persuade someone who knows what happened to speak out.

"I'm hoping the money will cause someone to come forward and say, 'Yeah I remember so and so,'" said Moon.

If you have any information, you are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 554-111.
