COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina lawmakers returning to the Statehouse were met with dueling protests over health care.

The House and Senate met for less than two hours Tuesday, mainly to catch up with each other. The Senate briefly debated a bill allowing guns in restaurants before adjourning.

Before the noon session, about 200 people who want lawmakers to pass a bill preventing the implementation of some of the new federal health care law protested in the rain. They support a bill that would ban Medicaid expansion and state-run health care exchanges in South Carolina and prevent state and local agencies from helping people sign up for health insurance.

At noon, several hundred people gathered for a Truthful Tuesday rally to ask the state to pay more for health care and education.
