Boy, 6, hit by car while walking to bus stop

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- A 6-year-old Windsor Hill Elementary student was hit by a car Wednesday morning while walking to his bus stop with friends. 

According to Pay Raynor with Dorchester District 2, after the accident, the school's assistant principal rode with him in the ambulance to Medical University Hospital and has stayed by his side.

Raynor said the boy was conscious the whole time, adding that his family has also joined him at the hospital.

The car that hit the boy did not stop, according to information Raynor learned from investigators.

The South Carolina Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
