11 Charleston cab drivers cited for overcharging

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Eleven Charleston cab drivers have been cited for overcharging their customers and two others were cited for not having the proper license after a recent police investigation.

According to Charleston police, the plainclothes officers were overcharged from $3 to $15.

Each of the drivers cited for overcharging were fined $133. The two cab drivers who did not have their chauffeur's license were fine $92.

Police say on April 19, an officer took two cab rides -- and he was overcharged on both rides. Another officer took seven rides on Dec. 16; he was overcharged on four of those rides.

Police say the drivers were paid the proper fare after the officers informed them they were violating the cab rate city ordinance and given their fines.
