Thousands without power in Mount Pleasant, IOP

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) -- Thousands of people were without power in Mount Pleasant and the Isle of Palms Tuesday afternoon. 

At one point according to SCE&G's outage map, more than 10,600 customers were without power. By 11:30 a.m., that number had dropped to about 4,400.

Almost all of the Isle of Palms was without power, and in Mount Pleasant, the outages were centered around Rifle Range Road near Bowman Road and McCants Drive and Center Street. 

SCE&G officials said equipment on a barge working in the intercoastal waterway "made contact with a power line."

As of 1:20 p.m. only 122 customers were listed as experiencing outages in the affected areas.

According to Coast Guard officials the incident happened  near the Isle of Palms Connector when a crane on a barge led by a tug boat hit a power pole.

There were no injuries reported.
