GREER, S.C. (AP) - Gov. Nikki Haley and U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham are joining South Carolina ports officials as the CEO of Norfolk Southern visits the state's new inland port in Greer.
The president and CEO of the rail line, Wick Moorman, is riding on the Norfolk Southern inspection train designed for company officials to visit the railroad's properties in in 22 states. U.S. Rep. Jeff Duncan is also attending the Friday event.
The inland port opened late last year and provides a direct rail link between Greer and the state's coastal port terminals.
Ports officials say during the inland port's first year of operation, it will eliminate 25,000 trucks hauling shipping containers on busy Interstate 26 across the state.
