Weather keeps Cainhoy firefighters busy with brush fires

Posted: Updated:

CAINHOY, S.C. (WCIV) -- Firefighters in Cainhoy say brush fires are keeping them busy and weather conditions make more fires likely.

The state is currently under a red flag warning from the Forestry Service.

According to fire officials, firefighters from Cainhoy went to Emerson Drive off of Charity Church Road for a brush fire. When they arrived, they found a rapidly spreading fire that they contained after it had burned three acres.

After investigating, firefighters found that a resident had been cutting rebar nearby and the sparks created the blaze.

Also on Saturday, firefighters from Cainhoy and Awendaw helped the Huger Rural Fire Department battle another brush fire on United Drive that was threatening three homes.

And earlier this week, firefighters went to Halfway Creek Road to battle a brush fire that was sparked by a vehicle dragging a tire. The incident caused five large brush fires and nine spot fires.

Cainhoy Fire Department has also responded to seven other brush fires this week, officials said.
