BERKELEY COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office is now a nationally accredited law enforcement agency.
The Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc. recognizes agencies that demonstrate a commitment to excellence in law enforcement.
According to a release, the award is considered a benchmark for professional law enforcement agencies.
"Now that we have reached this high standard, we must
continue to strive for even higher goals of professionalism to serve the
citizens of Berkeley County," said Sheriff Wayne Dewitt.
Nationally, 626 law enforcement agencies have this recognition. Of that, 33 of the agencies are in South Carolina.
The sheriff's office was notified of the award in August but a formal presentation will take place Monday at the Berkeley County Council meeting.
