Getting prepared for winter blast round 2

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Here we go again -- a second winter blast is set to hit the Palmetto State.

Snow, ice, and freezing temperatures are expected to start Tuesday evening lasting into Thursday in the Tri-county.

Just like the winter storm two weeks ago, state emergency officials are urging everyone to get preparations underway for their family, home, vehicles, and pets.

"We didn't have problems that the other states had with the same ice storm and I know that going forward we'll do just as good a job," Mount Pleasant Mayor Linda Page said.

The biggest issue last time were the Ravenel and Don Holt bridges both being shut down for at least a day due to dangerous ice and driving conditions, which left many people stranded East of the Cooper.

Page said the town will follow the same protocol as last time for any winter storms the rest of the year.

"We actually did discuss another ice event in terms of what would we do differently and could we do it differently this season, and the answer to that is no because we found out that some of the brining chemicals and some of the salt and sand we use maybe aren't all that we need to do to this bridge, perhaps we need to do more," Page said.

The South Carolina Legislature announced Monday that they are canceling session the rest of the week due to the weather.

At this time, no school districts have announced any closures or delays for this week.
