Haley nominates 8 for Ethics Commission

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Governor Nikki Haley has nominated eight people to serve on the State Ethics Commission.

The State newspaper reported the nominees include a former high ranking attorney for the Navy and a former federal prosecutor involved in the Operation Lost Trust investigation of state lawmakers in the 1990s.

Four of the ten seats on the panel are currently vacant and the terms of office of five other members of the panel have expired.

The General Assembly would have to approve Haley's choices.

The nominations come while the Senate is considering a bill to overhaul the Ethics Commission.

The nominees include James Burns, a former deputy counsel to a Navy admiral dealing with ethics and Sherry Lydon, a former federal prosecutor in South Carolina.
