Feds hold meeting on SC beach rebuilding project

Posted: Updated:

FOLLY BEACH, S.C. (AP) - The Army Corps of Engineers is scheduled to hold a public meeting on its more-than $20 million project to rebuild the shore at Folly Beach southwest of Charleston.

Crews began pouring sand on the beach last month. About 1.5 million cubic yards of sand is being put on the shore to restore more than 5 miles of beachfront that has been battered by erosion and storms in recent years.

Corps officials say the project affects both local residents and tourists.

During the Wednesday meeting in Folly Beach, project managers will be on hand to answer questions and there will be interactive displays about the project.
