CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV ) -- Firefighters responded to a fire in the 200 block of Sumter Street Thursday night.

Officials with the Charleston Fire Department said the first units arrived at about 9:45 p.m. and reported fire venting from the second floor window.

The homeowner told ABC News 4 she and her dad were inside and no one was hurt.

Charleston County EMS responded to the fire but did not transport anyone.

The homeowner said she was in bed and thought someone had hit the cars and then another person in the home told her to run. She said she got outside and then went back inside to get her purse but saw the fire and turned around.

Officials sad the fire started in a bedroom on the second floor that no one was in when the fire started.

Firefighters said they did not find any working smoke alarms in the home.

Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.

Firefighters said four engines responded to the fire, two ladder trucks and about 28 firefighters.
