Tuscaloosa foot doctor surrenders license amidst investigation

Posted: Updated:
NORTHPORT - AL -

Several patients of Northport Podiatrist, David Vance Robinson showed up Friday morning learning the office was closed and the doctor was no longer able to practice medicine.

"I had an appointment 15 minutes ago and I found out an hour ago I didn't," said Mitch Bayles, a patient Dr. Robinson operated on four years ago.

Workers at the office say they learned Monday about the troubles when a relative of Robinson came in and said he would not be back to work.

It all stems from a 6-month long investigation.  Investigators say concerned pharmacists in the area alerted them that Dr. Robinson was writing prescriptions for Lortab and Aderall, which are medications not typically given to foot patients.

Robinson voluntarily surrendered his medical license to the Alabama Board of Podiatry on February 14, 2014.

Its unclear why or to who the prescriptions were allegedly written.  But, agents say they've identified at least 14 people who benefited under the fraudulent prescriptions.

No one has been arrested or charged yet.  Investigators say the case will be presented to a grand jury in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, Dr. Robinson's patients are being called to the office to pick up their medical records in order to find another doctor.

ABC 33/40 contacted Robinson's attorney, Chuck Hardin regarding the issue.  He said they have no comment.
