CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Dozens of health professionals and organizations were on hand to offer screenings and answer health-related questions this weekend.

The annual Delma M. Woods and Aleta McLeod-Bryant Health and Wellness Fair was held Saturday and about 500 people attended

The event was held at the Arthur Christopher City Gymnasium on Fishbourne Street.

There were free screenings for blood pressure, cholesterol, blood glucose, vision, dental, sickle cell anemia, height and weight, feet and depression.

"This is an opportunity during Black History Month to give back to the community, to help support the health and wellness of our community because we have to be responsible for ourselves," said organizer Ida Spruill. "And this is an opportunity to say to the community, 'We love you. We want to keep you healthy and we want you to recognize that your health is your wealth.'"

MUSC's Hollings Cancer Center's Mobile Cancer Screening Unit provided on-site digital mammography screenings for women 40 and older.

The event was hosted by the Tri-County Black Nurses Association.
