UPDATE: CPD officials released the following statement March 27: "Zalia Chas, 18, who was reported missing by her family, has been found and she is okay."

Previous story:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- Charleston police are asking the public for help in finding an 18-year-old girl.

Police said Zalia 'Zia' Chas of Middleton Place was last seen by family members on Saturday, Feb. 22 at about 6:30 p.m.

She was last seen in the area of I-26 and Cypress Street.

Chas was wearing a black fleece jacket over a red shirt and black pants, and glasses. She was also wearing black shoes and carrying a small leather backpack/purse. Officials released a photo of the girl Monday morning.

Police said they do not suspect foul play.

On Thursday, police officials said they think she may be in the area of Poinsett Street and under the I-26 overpass.

This is not the first time the girl has gone missing. SHe was reported missing in 2011 and police said back then that Chas is more likely to run away when approached, rather than ask for help.

Police said the last time she was located she was in the marsh and she has said in the past that she wants to live off the land.

If you have any information, you are asked to call the Charleston Police Department at 743-7200.
