TSA opens Pre-Check center for Charleston airport travelers

Posted: Updated:

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Transportation Security Administration opened a new site for its Pre-Check application program for air travelers in Charleston.

The temporary site is at the Coastal Glass Business Center on Ashley Phosphate Road in North Charleston. The permanent site will be at 1954 Ashley River Road in West Ashley.

The program lets frequent travelers leave on their shoes, belt, lightweight outerwear, keep their laptop in its case, and carry compliant liquids as a carry-on.

To enroll in the Pre-Check program, there is a prescreening application on the TSA website. After that, applicants make an appointment and complete their enrollment at the application center to verify their identity, present documentation to confirm their citizenship/immigration status and provide fingerprints.

The application center is open Tuesday-Friday: 8:30 a.m.-noon and 1-4 p.m.  Applicants with questions can contact the Universal Enrollment Call Center at 1-855-347-8371 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m.-10 p.m.

TSA is currently in the process of expanding to more than 300 application centers across the country.
