ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WCIV) -- A woman was found in the trunk of a car in Orangeburg County Tuesday evening, officials with the Highway Patrol confirmed.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, an officer found the vehicle at a rest stop on Interstate 95 around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. A male suspect who was part of a look-out alert for the Highway Patrol was in the car.

According to a release from the Orangeburg Sheriff's Office, 20-year-old Regelio Lopez was arrested. Lopez had an outstanding kidnapping warrant from the Richmond (VA) City Police Department.

The alert came from a possible kidnapping out of Richmond, Va., officials said.

Highway Patrol officials said the woman was found in the trunk of the suspect's car.

Officers did not disclose the relationship between the two. The woman was rescued and checked out by EMS.

The case has since been handed over to the Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office to investigate.

The sheriff's office has not released any additional information in the case.
