SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (WCIV) -- South Carolina Highway Patrol officials say they had to stop a car that was trying to go around traffic stopped on I-26 eastbound Thursday morning.

When they pulled the woman over near mile marker 201, however, they realized she was in labor and was trying to get to the hospital.

All lanes of I-26 east were congested because of several accidents that happened in North Charleston. You can read about them here.

SCHP officials said rescue crews took the woman to St. Francis Hospital around 9 a.m. Traffic cleared soon after.

We will update this story as more information becomes available.
