CHARLESTON, S. C. (WCIV) -- After going into labor in the middle of a traffic jam on I-26, Lashaunta Flowers took her newborn home from the hospital Saturday.

Flowers said her son, Terrance Davis, wasn't supposed to be born until March 3, so when she went into labor on the freeway, she panicked.

"I was just crying,"she said. "I wasn't expecting him to come but I was ready to meet him."

Flowers said she was in disbelief until the nurse asked her one question.

"The nurse said, 'Do you want to do a practice push?' and that's when it hit me and I was like, 'Oh my gosh,'" said Flowers.

The new mother said she immediately called her boyfriend, Terry Davis, who also got stuck in traffic and missed his son's birth.

"I would call and say, 'Hey I'm four centimeters or five centimeters,' and when I hit 10 there was no waiting - this baby was coming," said Flowers.

The newborn weighed 7 pounds and 13 ounces.

Just two days old, the parents already can' t wait until he is old enough to understand what happened.

"I'll probably tell him that he came in with a bang, " said Flowers.
