NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) – JetBlue announced Thursday that it plans to expand its business at Charleston International Airport this summer.

According to the company, it will begin twice daily non-stop flights on June 19 to and from Washington's Reagan Airport. The flights will leave Charleston at 7:25 a.m. and 2:35 p.m. Flights from Washington will depart at 12:20 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

JetBlue is also offering introductory fares for $44 for one-way travel, including taxes and fees between Charleston and Washington. The fares are only available for purchase on Thursday, March 6.

"Just last week we celebrated our first year of serving the Charleston market, and it has been a terrific success for JetBlue," said Scott Laurence, the airline's vice president of network planning. "Thanks to the strong support of the local community we're pleased to be growing in Charleston and look forward to bringing down fares to the nation's capital, just as we've done to other cities we serve from Charleston."

"I am excited to learn that JetBlue will be providing direct flights from Charleston to Washington, D.C. in the near future," said U.S. Rep. Mark Sanford of South Carolina. "New connections like these say the obvious – more people each day want to come to Charleston! In that regard, this is ultimately a compliment to the people of the Lowcountry of South Carolina and the hospitality we offer. So for both the economic impact and the connection, I join with others in complimenting JetBlue."
