CofC president candidates to visit campus next week

CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) – The three remaining candidates for the College of Charleston's presidential search will visit the campus next week, officials announced Thursday afternoon.

The remaining candidates are Dennis Encarnation, Glenn McConnell, and Martha Saunders.

Encarnation, a retired international business consultant and faculty member from Harvard University as well as a current member of the College's Foundation, will visit the campus on Wednesday; Lt. Gov. McConnell will visit the school on Thursday; and Saunders, a provost and professor at the University of West Florida, will visit the campus on Friday.

College officials are still working on the schedules for the three candidates.

Each person will be given an opportunity to speak with faculty, staff, students, alumni, and members of the community.

Earlier this week, Andrew H. Card, Jr., who was named as a finalist in the search, has decided to stand down at this time.

The current president, George Benson, announced he was stepping down late last year and would be rejoining the ranks of the faculty in the business school. Benson's tenure at the College began in 2007 after leaving the Terry School of Business at the University of Georgia.
