CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) -- The Gaillard Management Corporation Board appointed its executive director for the Charleston Gaillard Center.

Tom Tomlinson is a nationally recognized manager of performing arts centers.

He was recruited through a nationwide search and was unanimously approved by the 17-member board, which includes Mayor Joseph P. Riley Jr.

"Tom was the clear choice – indeed a unanimous choice – through a robust process," said Riley. "Beyond his experience, contacts and knowledge in operating world-class facilities like the new Gaillard Center, the people of Charleston and our region will find him extremely likeable, enthusiastic and collaborative."

Tomlinson is responsible for leading, managing and directing artistic programs, operations, staff and volunteers.

During his career, he has been associated with projects ranging from the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts, Orange County Performing Arts Center and the Performing Arts Center of Greater Miami (now called the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts), to the Woodruff Arts Center (home to the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra) and most recently, the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center in Bowling Green.

"I am honored to be part of the effort to rejuvenate the multi-faceted Gaillard Center, delighted to be part of the Charleston arts community and look forward to working with local arts organizations who will help bring it to life," he said.

The center is scheduled to be completed in April of 2015. It will be the home of the Charleston Symphony Orchestra and venue for sustained arts education.
