3 killed in small plane crash in Hartsville

Posted: Updated:

HARTSVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say three people died when a small plane crashed between two houses in a neighborhood in Hartsville.

Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee confirmed the three deaths. All three were on the plane, and no one on the ground was injured or killed in the crash, which occurred about 7 p.m. Saturday.

Hardee identified the three men Sunday as: 29-year-old Joseph Melton Loflin II and his father-in-law, 61-year-old George Thomas Rogers, both of Society Hill; and 75-year-old Leslie Bradshaw of Hartsville. Authorities say the plane was trying to land at the nearby Hartsville Regional Airport.

Sheriff Wayne Byrd says a 911 caller who was a family member or friend reported about 6:40 p.m. that the plane was having problems with its landing gear.

Federal investigators were at the scene Sunday.
