Police: Pregnant woman involved in home invasion

Posted: Updated:

GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCIV) -- An intruder forced his way into the home of pregnant woman who was alone with a toddler, said officials with the Goose Creek Police Department.

The woman told ABC News 4 she is seven months pregnant and was pushed to the ground by the intruder.

Officers said a man broke in through the back door, showed the woman a gun and screamed "Where's the check, where's my money?" The victim told police she threw her purse at him and said she didn't have any money.

The suspect made her put the toddler on the couch and told her to go upstairs. She told police she snuck back down and found the child still on the sofa and the suspect gone.

Officers did not say if anything was taken from the home.

Neighbors said there have been break-ins in the complex before but the targeted units were unsold homes and only building materials were stolen.

Neighbors said they can't imagine having been in this woman's situation.

"Scary. Horrifying. Terrifying - it would scare me to death," said Crystal Kennedy. "Kinda makes me want to keep my family close tonight and the rest of the time as well. So it's definitely scary."

The woman was taken to the hospital as a precaution.

According to the police report, the suspect is described as a tall black male wearing blue jeans, a light blue shirt, and earrings in each ear.

If anyone knows anything about this or any other crime, they are asked to call Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
