Construction worker injured at Tuscaloosa apartment complex

Posted: Updated:

A construction worker is rushed to the hospital after a structure collapsed at a Tuscaloosa Apartment Complex.

The accident happened at The Avenue Apartments. A construction crew was working on a structure that encloses a staircase when it fell.

One person was seriously hurt when it collapsed. We were not allowed on the property, but several buildings are under construction. The Tuscaloosa Fire Department got the call for help around 11 o'clock Wednesday morning.

The Tuscaloosa Fire Marshall says the construction crew was attaching the 3-story enclosure to a building when wind caused it to fall. He says the crew was doing everything they were suppose to at the site.

The Fire Marshall says the worker who was injured was taken by ambulance to UAB hospital. No one else was hurt.
