CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) – A Charleston woman was arrested on drug and unlawful conduct toward a child charges after police officers say they found her two children, ages 1 and 4, alone at home.

According to a police report, Sarina Lundwell was charged with two counts of unlawful conduct towards a child and two counts of possession of a controlled substance, as well as resisting arrest.

Officers say they were called to the home by a neighbor after seeing Lundwell leave home without her children, the report states. When officers checked on the children, they found the back door unlocked and the one-year-old in a crib crying. The 4-year-old told officers that her mother was in New York.

Officers reported the home to be in nearly unlivable conditions: the kitchen sink and countertops were overflowing with dirty and molding dishes; the couches were covered in clothes leaving nowhere to sit; knives and scissors were within reach of the children; an upstairs bathtub was full of dirty blinds and bleach water; and the front door was blocked by toys and clothes, "making it inaccessible in case of an emergency."

Nearly two hours later according to the report, Lundwell returned and told officers she had gone to the store for groceries and cigarettes, but officers say she was not carrying any grocery bags when she got home.

Lundwell also told officers she left her children in the care of a friend, the report states.

Lundwell was told she was being arrested, and a struggle ensued, the report states. She was put in an arm bar but continued to kick at the officers and tried to pull out of the handcuffs, according to the report.

She had to be carried to the car and, once inside the police cruiser, she kicked at the windows and beat her head on the Plexiglas divider, the report states.

A Department of Social Services representative took the two small children into protective custody.

While searching Lundwell, officers reportedly found several amphetamine and Hydrocodone pills.

Lundwell is being held at the Al Cannon Detention Center.
