Posted: Updated:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - It could be June before the all the debris from last month's winter storm is cleaned from the roads and highways across South Carolina.

The state Department of Transportation says the cleanup in 19 counties hard hit by the ice and snow storm could cost more than $160 million.

The department says that 725 contract crews are helping clean trees and other debris from roads and highways. The agency says the work could take another 80 days to complete.

Almost 4,300 miles of roadways have been cleaned.

The debris includes more than 460,000 trees that were leaning over roadways or had broken branches hanging over highways.
