BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Authorities have made an arrest in connection with a 2011 cold case homicide investigation, Birmingham police announced Friday.

Gregory Chancey, 36, is charged with murder for the death of a 54-year-old transient, Fredrick Scheinert, who was found dead, face down inside a room at the Hospitality Inn on July 10. An autopsy revealed the victim died from blunt force trauma to the body.

Investigators received several leads in the case but were never able to identify a suspect until Tuesday, when new information was obtained linking Chancey to the murder.

Chancey is currently being held in the Jefferson County Jail on a $60,000 bond.
