TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- A Tuscaloosa man and woman were arrested Thursday morning after they broke into a bait car, police said.

Deandre Shonquez Lockett, 19, and Lanetta Ann Toney, 22, have each been charged with two counts of unlawful breaking and entering of a motor vehicle.

According to a release, officers responded to an alarm signaling activity in one of the police department's bait cars that was parked in the 2400 block of Denny Street. Upon their arrival at the scene, police saw the duo standing near the vehicle, which had one of its doors ajar. The suspects were detained for questioning while officers investigated further.

Authorities later found a purse that was stolen from another car break-in that occurred within the hour in the 2300 block of Veterans Memorial Parkway, prompting the arrest of the suspects.

Lockett and Toney were booked into the Tuscaloosa County Jail on $30,000 bonds.
