Hanahan man wins $125K, but won’t tempt fate with another ticket buy

MOUNT PLEASANT, S.C. (WCIV) – A Hanahan man told the South Carolina Lottery Commission that he's bought his last lottery ticket after winning $125,000 on a $5 scratch-off ticket this week.

"I've been playing forever," said the husband, who said his patience was rewarded on a Giant Jumbo Bucks ticket he bought at the Circle K on Meeting Street in downtown Charleston on his way home from work.

The odds of him winning that prize were close to 1 in a million, according to the lottery commission.

"When it happened, I called my wife and asked her if she was sitting down," the husband said.  "She thought I was lying when I told her that I'd won."

When he showed his wife the scratch-off with the words "JUMBO" and "$25,000" printed five times on the ticket, she did the math and knew $125,000 was theirs.

The lucky couple went out to dinner to celebrate the unexpected surprise. Now they'll pay off their debts.

There is one more $125,000 winning ticket for the Giant Jumbo Bucks game.

For selling the claimed ticket, Circle K Stores #5124 in Charleston received a commission of $1,250.
