Man arrested in 2012 Wadmalaw Island murder

Posted: Updated:

WADMALAW ISLAND, S.C. (WCIV) – Nearly two years after a man's body was found on Wadmalaw Island, Charleston County deputies charged a second man with his murder.

According to affidavits, Broderick William Seay Jr. and Kevin Howard shot and killed 24-year-old Adrian Lyles, of West Ashley.

A few days after Lyles' body was found, authorities arrested Kevin Lamar Howard. He is the victim's cousin, according to affidavits.

Now officials say they have linked Seay to the murder as well.

During the investigation, detectives learned that two black men went to Lyles' home. When Lyles opened the door, one of the men hit him and pushed him back inside. There was a struggle, according to the affidavit, and then the three men left the area in a gray sedan.

The search for the second suspect was renewed on March 6 of this year when a fourth witness told detectives that Howard was covered in blood and had a broken thumb. The witness reportedly said the two men were acting strange.

According to the affidavit, later than night Howard broke down in tears and said something bad had happened. Then the news of the murder surfaced and the witness put the two things together, the affidavit states.
