SC gas prices up 3.5 cents over last week

Posted: Updated:

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WCIV) – Average gas prices across the state rose by 3.5 cents per gallon in the last week, according to, a gas price tracking website.

According to the website, the average price across the state was $3.20 per gallon on Sunday. The average price per gallon nationally rose 2.6 cents to $3.50 per gallon last week.

"The national average has unsurprisingly continued it's march higher, and for the sixth consecutive week, motorists have faced rising gasoline prices," said Senior Petroleum Analyst Patrick DeHaan.

Including the change in price this week, prices are 24.6 cents per gallon lower than the same day one year ago and 11.5 cents higher than one month ago across the state.

Nationally, the price per gallon is 15.1 cents lower than one year ago and 15.5 center higher than one month ago.

"While the rate that gasoline prices may slow nationally this week, I don't yet believe we've seen the peak in prices. Refineries are in the middle of one of their two major yearly maintenance seasons, which means as refineries wrap up their work in April, we could see restarting issues, which could bring the spikes in gasoline prices we're nearly accustom to seeing every spring," DeHaan said.
